About 400 disgruntled Air Canada employees staged a rally at Toronto's Pearson Airport on Thursday, a day before one of the unions could serve notice of a strike.
The Canadian Auto Workers union members gathered at Terminal 1 just after 1 p.m. ET. They entered the terminal carrying placards, and dispersed after 2 p.m. Police were present but the rally remained peaceful.
A proposal to change pension plans for new hires is a key issue as Air Canada and its union continue bargaining in Toronto.
The CAW, which represents 3,800 Air Canada customer service and airport workers, said the goal of Thursday's rally was to convey to management that "enough is enough."
The union could serve 72-hours notice on Friday for a strike beginning at midnight on June 13.
If bargaining fails, the airline has said it plans to maintain full operations by implementing a contingency service to minimize the impact on customers.
On Monday, the union representing 6,800 Air Canada flight attendants asked for a federal conciliator to assist in its contract talks with the airline.
CUPE said it filed the request after reaching an impasse with management on several key issues.
